Koh Phangan has no large corporate rental companies operating on the Island yet so you will not be able to rent a car with the likes of Hertz, Expedia, Avis and Budget car which also means you will need to use one of the local companies on the Island.
My Hut Rental has a selection of cars, motorbikes and mountain bikes all at good rates and excellent quality. They have good ratings on Tripadvisor and in low season you can normally walk in and rent a car very easily. They have been operating on the Island for over 20 years.
Renting a car or bike you will need to fill in some basic paper work and most of the time leave a passport. If you return the car or motorbike back damaged then they will hold your passport until you have paid the agreed fee for the damage. When signing the documents they ask for, they have a parts list for the vehicles which you will sign to agree to the terms and conditions.
Insurance on the vehicles is kept at the shop.
Check our vehicle well and if you have a camera take some photos of it, so you have some proof if there are scratches or dents on the vehicle you rent. At My Hut rental they do this anyway with you, and everything is set very clear.
If you are hiring the motorbike or car for a long period its worth negotiating a better price.
